About Mr. Varini
Hello everyone!
My name is Thomas Varini, I am a Spanish teacher and the Foreign Language Department Chair at Buford High School.
I was born and raised in Italy. I grew up in a small town called Campogalliano, which is close to the city of Modena (home of tortellini, Pavarotti, balsamic vinegar, Parmesan cheese and Ferraris). Since my father is Italian and my mother is English, I was raised in a bilingual home. My family and I moved to the United States when I turned fourteen.
I started learning Spanish in high school. My love for the Spanish language and culture made me choose to become a teacher and share my passion. Three years after completing my Bachelor of Science degree from Georgia Southern I also attained a Masters of Arts Degree in Secondary Education (8-12). Most recently, I have completed a Specialist Degree in Teacher Leadership through Valdosta University with an endorsement in ESOL, as well as taking the pre-requisite courses needed for the Education Leadership Program to eventually become an administrator.
On top of being a foreign language teacher, I am also an assistant coach to the girls' soccer program. I played soccer growing up in Italy, and I have been a passionate fan and student of the sport as far back as I can remember.
This will be my 8th year at Buford High School and my 10th year in the education field. I worked at Grayson High School for a short period of time, but when I was offered the opportunity to teach at Buford High School I immediately accepted. I truly love the Buford community. In fact, after joining the Buford family, my wife and I moved within a few minutes of downtown Buford, as we believe that there is nowhere better to raise a family.
When I am not teaching, I enjoy spending time outdoors with my wife and my kid. I love hiking, scuba diving, skiing, traveling, camping and growing vegetables in my garden. I also enjoy reading and learning anything new. I feel very fortunate to be surrounded every day by bright, smart, and charismatic students who make me feel like I have the best job in the world.
